You and your church are invited to join a coalition of Christians, churches and organisations who are engaging with the People’s Emergency Briefing on the climate crisis.

What is the People's Emergency Briefing?

In November 2025, leading experts gathered in Westminster to host a National Emergency Briefing that set out the stark implications of a climate and nature breakdown. From extreme weather events made more likely by climate change such as floods, cyclones and heatwaves to food and water shortages to biodiversity collapse, climate change is having a profound impact on God’s creation and communities living in poverty.

These experts briefed more than 1,200 politicians and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media on the current status of the climate crisis. They also called on the UK Government to give a national televised briefing on the climate and nature crisis followed by a national emergency response.

From this briefing, a compelling documentary has been produced, bringing together footage from the Westminster event with reactions from members of the public and some more familiar faces. It is called the People’s Emergency Briefing and is being screened across the nation at civic centres, cinemas, community halls and churches.

We’re inviting you and your church to get involved by hosting a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing and exploring how you can respond to it.

Check out the resource today to help you and your church get involved.

‘I encourage churches to invite their wider community and show this film – it's a wake up for us all. Its message to care for climate, people, nature is so urgently needed, not least so that we might live and act as Jesus would have us be.’
Rt Rev Graham Usher, Bishop of Norwich and lead Bishop for Environment for the Church of England

Why should Christians be involved in climate action?

God has entrusted us with a beautiful world – but today, creation is suffering. The climate crisis is pushing more people into poverty and placing everyone at risk. It’s not a distant threat; it’s happening now.

As Christians, we’re called to love our neighbours, act justly, and care for God’s creation. The effects of the climate crisis are hitting communities living in poverty first and hardest, communities who have done the least to cause the crisis. It is a justice issue, and the church has a vital role to play.

That’s why we’re encouraging you to engage with the People’s Emergency Briefing and respond to the call to action for the church.

Together, as the body of Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, we can tackle the causes and impacts of the climate crisis – protecting lives, communities, and creation.

Prayer for the climate

Lord God, you made the world and declared it was ‘very good’ (Genesis 1:31). And yet, we have not treated the earth and our fellow humans with the care and respect they deserve. We are sorry and ask for your forgiveness.

Give us the courage to keep raising our voices about the climate emergency, which affects people living in poverty the worst. And may your Spirit of peace be in the hearts of all people so that conflicts end in peace and relationships are restored.

Amen.
