Reverse fast fashion with The Great Fashion Fast

Wear just ten items of clothing for a fortnight or a month, get sponsored, and help tackle the climate crisis.

Join The Great Fashion Fast: pick ten items of clothing and get people to sponsor you to wear only those things for a fortnight or a whole month.

Raise money. Live more sustainably. Help beat poverty.

Fast fashion is harming God’s creation and pushing people further into poverty. But you can help reverse the trend with The Great Fashion Fast.

It’s simple: pick ten items of clothing and get people to sponsor you to wear only those things for a fortnight or a whole month. (If you’re feeling really brave, you could even have someone else pick them for you!)

There are a few exceptions – we’re all for personal hygiene, so underwear, sports gear and uniforms are not included in the ten items!

The money you raise will be used to help vulnerable communities around the world adapt to the climate crisis and lift themselves out of poverty.

Throwing the future away

Fashion is fun. Clothes can help us express ourselves – not to mention protect us from the elements! But fast fashion’s addiction to excess is having a devastating effect.

The fashion industry generates more harmful CO2 emissions than all international flights and shipping combined. This contributes to climate change – making extreme weather events such as droughts, floods and storms more frequent and more severe. And it’s people living in poverty who are suffering the consequences.

FAQs

  • It’s simple: for a fortnight or a month, restrict yourself to choosing your outfits from only ten items of clothing. You could pick yourself, or, if you're feeling brave, have someone you know pick for you! Get your friends, family and church to sponsor you, knowing that the money could make a huge difference to people affected by the climate crisis.

  • No – we love a challenge, but not that much of a challenge! Keep your undies as fresh as you like.

Nightwear (that’s pyjamas to you and me) doesn’t have to be included in the ten items either – just make sure that you’re only wearing them at night!

  • Shoes aren’t included in the ten items (unless you really want them to be) – so don’t worry, you can wear as many different pairs of platforms as you like.

Workout wear is optional, as we all exercise different amounts. If you think you’re going to need your running, swim or gym gear several times a week, then for hygiene reasons it’s probably best to not include them in your ten items. But if you’re up for the challenge and reckon you can cope, then go for it!

If you need to wear a uniform for work (eg nurses, police or astronauts) then you don’t need to include this in your ten items. Same goes for any safety gear, of course.

  • If you want to wear a bow tie with your onesie then that’s okay with us. But remember that it’s a fast – we want to challenge ourselves, so if slapping on a dozen pashminas is going to make the challenge easier then maybe give them a miss.

  • When you sign up, we’ll automatically create a JustGiving page for you. It’s easy to share with your friends, family and church, who can then sponsor you online through this page. We recommend setting a target of £250 – but you’re welcome to set your own amount as well!
